Sergio, There are a variety of chemicals in the cleanroom industry that have been validated for an array of applications. Depending on the nature of your work in the cleanroom and what exactly it is you’re are trying to elminate with the cleaning will best determine the type of chemical needed. Because your question pertains [...]

I am working on an ISO-8 Cleanroom installation and I am looking for feed back on the question of having a sanitary wash station in the Gown Room going into the Cleanroom.
I have found two schools of thought. One school says you need to remove contamination from you hands prior to handling Cleanroom garments in the Gowning Room by using a ”hands-free” sanitary hand washing station with a sink and a HEPA filterd dryer. The other school says to use only sanitary wipes or solution prior to handling Cleanroom garments because the sinks are a source of bioactivity that could contaminate the Cleanroom with bacteria and mold.
I would appreciate any guidance that members of the forum could provide.

    Hi Everyone,

My company is developing a Parts Washing operation. These Parts are to be transfered into a Class 1000 Cleanroom. What size Filter should the Parts Washer be installed with? We are an optics electronics company

      Hi Jeff,
I’ve called on some experts and believe I have an answer for you.
First, the water for washing should be addressed. The temperature of the water is critical: it should be hot, 18 meghom water filtered to .5 micron. Do not use any surfactant-based cleaners during this process.
As for the air filtration in the area, the percentage of filtration in the ceiling / air exchanges per hour will depend more on the activity within the cleanroom than the class of the cleanroom. In other words, a cleanroom that does not generate much contamination there is not a need for as much air exchange. Any engineer with controlled environment HVAC experience can make a more specific recommendation.
      Hope this helps!

Recently, in the Cleanroom Cleaning group an inquiry was posted concerning action and alert levels for environmental monitoring measurements (i.e. measurement of bacterial levels) in ISO Class 7 & 8 environments in a medical device manufacturing facility.
While colony forming unit (CFU) measurements in ”controlled environments” display the typical negative exponential histogram character usually seen for particle measurements, in ”dirtier” environments, the histogram changes to a ”normal” i.e. a Gaussian distribution.
In a controlled environment, one would expect alert levels of 3*mean and action levels of 4.6*mean, In ISO Class 7&8 environments the alert levels change to mean +1.65*std dev’n and action levels change to mean +2.33*std dev’n. This information is described in a 2004 Cleanrooms East Conference paper. copy of Cleanrooms Magazine may be able to supply a copy of the full paper “Establishing and Environmental Monitoring Program”.

Jozaeta, sorry for the very long delay in responding to your inquiry, but I recently came across some information that might be of use. At the 2004 Cleanrooms East Conference in Orlando, a paper on “Establishing and Environmental Monitoring Program” was presented. In that paper viable guidelines for ISO Class 7 & 8 cleanrooms were [...]

I’m not an expert in this area, but viable and particulate data in “at rest” situations may not be very persuasive to government monitoring agencies or to customers who audit. Far more compelling are the “in operation” data which reflect what the devices are seeing during normal operating conditions.

    Regards

    Howard
